Carilion Biomedical Chief Elected to VaBio Board of Directors
Roanoke, VA Daniel Barchi, President and CEO of the Carilion Biomedical Institute (CBI), has been elected to the 2003 – 2004 VaBIO Board of Directors. As leader of CBI Mr. Barchi works with other biotechnology leaders around the Commonwealth and the nation, including leading scientific experts at Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, local Roanoke Virginia inventors and entrepreneurs and healthcare practitioners at the Carilion Health System to commercialize biomedical breakthroughs. Mr. Barchi states, “collaborating with the other board members of VaBio to promote biotechnology in Virginia will be a great opportunity to bring together organizations and to enhance awareness of the incredible resources that we have right here.
I look forward to leveraging relationships already established at the Carilion Biomedical Institute in the Roanoke Valley and to creating new networks across Virginia to promote Virginia’s powerful biotechnology capabilities.” The Carilion Biomedical Institute is dedicated to improving the health and lives of people worldwide by partnering with scientists, researchers, and the medical and business communities to create major advances in healthcare.
VaBio is a non-profit association formed to promote biotechnology industry in Virginia, expand the knowledge and expertise of Virginia’s businesses concerning biotechnology through seminars, educational publications and other means, to enhance public awareness of the biotechnology industry in virginia and the scientific, economic and other benefits it provides and to represent the interests of the biotechnology industry in Virginia before federal, state and local legislators and regulators.
