Carilion Wins National Quality Award

Carilion Wins National Quality Award

Carilion Health System Employees and Medical Staff Recognized for Quality Care

In March 2002, the National Committee for Quality Healthcare and Modern Healthcare magazine presented Carilion Health System with the 2002 National Quality Award. A prestigious panel of industry experts and consumer advocates selected Carilion as the national winner. Carilion joins a select group of past recipients and industry leaders, such as Henry Ford Health System, Intermountain Health Care and the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

This award belongs to our employees and physicians who are dedicated to our patients, day in and day out. Their skill, dedication, compassion and teamwork provide outstanding care for the community. It is on these attributes that this national award is based, and upon their daily commitment to excellence.

This award is not the only national recognition for Carilion in 2002. In January, we were honored, for the second year in a row, as a top-30 integrated health system by Modern Healthcare magazine. Carilion also received a five-star grade for cardiac and vascular services from Health Grades, a national healthcare quality monitoring organization.

In a statement to all Carilion employees and physicians, Edward E. Murphy, M.D., president and CEO, said, "On behalf of the Board of Directors and all who benefit from your efforts, I would like to publicly acknowledge your achievement. We are a healthier community as a result of your work."
