Demolition To Begin For Biomedical Park
The demolition makes way for construction to begin on the first building.
WHAT: The demolition of the first building in the area of the Riverside Centre for Research and Technology marks the beginning of construction on the new biomedical park. The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority awarded the demolition contract to Alan L. Amos, Inc. WHO: Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority WHEN: Wednesday, May 1, 8:00 a.m. WHERE: 1860 South Jefferson Street DIRECTIONS: From 581, Exit Elm Avenue, turn left on Jefferson Street, turn left on Reserve, #1860 is the last building on the left by the one lane bridge. VISUALS: An excavator with a hydraulic claw will demolish the building. It will take the excavator about one hour to knock down the walls. BACKGROUND: The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority has acquired most of the land for the first phase of the biomedical park. When fully developed the park is expected to offer 1,250,000 square feet of building space, attract $175 million in capital expenditures and bring up to 2,500 jobs. |
